This riverfront plaza is a great family destination. There are fountains, several amphitheaters, lots of room for romping, and good views of the water and of Windsor.
In the winter, Hart Plaza is a popular place to go ice skating (and it's free - skate rental is $2). Head to the Renaissance Center after to grab a bite to eat - and take the kids up to the observation deck.
On the weekends during warmer months, Hart Plaza hosts some of the largest music festivals in the country, such as the Detroit International Jazz Festival, the African World Festival, and the Downtown Hoedown.

tips:
Don't feed the birds in the area - they're a bit aggressive. You give one little bird a piece of bread crust and he calls 10,000 of his friends, who flap and squawk and try for your whole sandwich.
