about Headlands Beach State Park:
While some west siders prefer to trek to the Islands, Mentor Headlands beach, as it's known by locals, is a clear favorite destination for beach-bound families from Cleveland's east side.
Well-maintained changing rooms and concessions provide all the essentials for day trippers, and the beach is often crowded on sunny summer days.
A small playground on the western end of the beach area may keep little ones from becoming completely waterlogged.
Still, in spite of its popularity with boisterous bathers, Headlands gives visitors the feeling of "getting away" from the city. That feeling comes thanks, in large part, to its location. Sandwiched between two state nature preserves, and near two others, a trip to the park offers an experience in relative tranquility.
Picnic tables, grills, and a reservable picnic shelter make Headlands a popular spot for family reunions and other gatherings.
Fishing from the breakwall is popular (anglers can snag Erie's famous walleye, and also coho salmon, but more often, they catch crappie and catfish). Find access to the breakwall from the far east side of the beach area parking lot.
