At the Heller Nature Center, city dwellers can really make a return to nature. Three miles of marked trails offer a real chance to connect with the seasons, the earth, and the flora and fauna, and it's just a hop, skip, and jump away in Chicago's northern suburbs.

In season (when snow is 4" or more) families can rent skis and try a little cross-country exercise. Ski rentals include boots, poles, and skis, and are available in sizes appropriate for six years old and up.

Heller also hosts seasonal after school classes for kids in grades 1-5; preschool classes; and a summer camp program for kids ages four to 13.

Birthday parties can be held here for kids between the ages of four and ten years, and include an hour-long session with a naturalist, followed by 30 minutes for cake and gift opening.
