The popularity of Metro Transit's long-awaited
Hiawatha Light Rail Line has taken even some supporters by surprise, and ridership on the new service continues to exceed projections. The train makes
17 stops in about 40 minutes to connect downtown
Minneapolis with the
Mall of America, via the
airport. The trains are
clean, fast, and convenient, and run every 10 to 15 minutes, with frequency increasing to every 8 minutes during morning and evening rush hour. Full fares include a
free transfer, good for 2 1/2 hours of additional travel in any direction and on buses. Rides that begin and end within the
Downtown Zone cost $0.50, even during rush hour, but do not include transfer privileges. Several
pass options are available.
