About Holiday Ice Rink

The Embarcadero ice rink exists just two months out of the year, which makes the experience of skating there that much more special. Early in November, the water is poured for the rink set up at the foot of the Embarcadero Center.

Skating Sessions: 90 minutes public skate sessions begin on every even hour starting at 10am. Please call in advance to check the hours; the rink may be closed for private parties.

Skating Lessons: Offers individual and group lessons. Call 415.956.2688 for details.

Birthday Party: Package includes admission and skate rentals for up to 10 people, along with beverages and cake. Call for pricing; it's usually reasonable.

Getting There

Foot of Market at the Embarcadero Ctr in Justin Herman Plaza. Take any MUNI and get off at the Embacardero station. Parking is validated up to four hours after 5pm on weekdays, and after 10am on weekends.

Drove in from Marin fighting traffic to bring my kids - all excited about it and told last minute rink closed for 2 back to back private parties. No warning, nothing on the website until after the fact. And lots of "that's tough" attitude.

This is the worst managed skate rink. I planned a retreat with eight of my students. We called the skate rink and asked whether we should make a reservation--of, they respond, "no." 45 minutes before the group meets, we find out the RINK is closed for a "PRIVATE PARTY!" How unprofessional to close an entire skate rink WITHOUT prior warning. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

My family and friends went last night to ice skate, after checking the open hours online. To our suprise the rink was closed to a private party, and they turned us away. The manager told us there was nothing he could do to for us,he also confirmed the website does not give any information on closed/special events. What a terrible disappointment, after commuting 1 hour each way to get to the rink with kids.

Skate times are on even hours and the process for purchasing tickets and skate rentals went very smooth. The rink was fun, the skates new and the atmosphere a real nice experience. Come early and enjoy Embarcadero shopping!

For the past 5 years, our family has made the trip into SF for what has become a wonderful family tradition. We live in Fremont and ride Bart into the city in the late afternoon on the day after Thanksgiving. We grab hot cocoa and purchase our tickets for the 5pm or later skate. As the lights come on and the music starts pumping, we are all little kids gliding around the rink, braving a spin here...a backward glide there... It's magical! We look forward to it every year. (My kids are 9 and 12 now and I've watched my youngest go from barely being able to stand, to being able to glide with the greatest of ease.) We take an annual family photo under the lights in the corner with the clock tower in the background. Since the rink recently got new skates, there is nothing to complain about! After the skate, we go for dinner at Chevy's (which is a welcome change after all the turkey from the day before). It's great for all ages.
