The Holiday Inn Express is a great hotel for families, offering clean and bright accommodations that are extraordinarily kid-friendly.

The hotel offers rooms with standard double beds that work fine for a family of four. The room with a king is great for a couple with a baby or toddler. But we suggest you splurge a bit and reserve the Junior Suite with two double beds, a sofa, microwave and refrigerator. We loved the ease of eating dinner in the room simply by picking up take-out at a local restaurant and heating it in the microwave. The money we saved on eating all our dinners out more than made up for the additional cost for the suite.

Besides the spacious rooms, the next best feature of the hotel is the free breakfast. Families can start the day with the ample buffet of fruit, cereals, muffins, juices, hardboiled eggs, and ... cinnamon rolls! For a family of four, that breakfast equals a savings of at least $35 a day.

Another terrific amenity of this hotel is their wonderful outdoor pool and sunning deck. The whole family can enjoy relaxing by the pool after (or in lieu of) a day of seeing sites. The Holiday Inn Express also offers free high speed internet, a washer and dryer, and adjoining 24-hour Denny's.

The Holiday Inn Express is conveniently located within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf. Guests can easily stroll over to Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square , and the Ferry Piers (heading to Alcatraz and circling the Bay) along the Embarcadero. As well, cable cars and trolleys provide convenient rides to downtown Union Square, the Financial District, Moscone Center, Chinatown, the Castro, and AT&T Ballpark. Public transportation is so accessible that families may choose to forgo the rental car (and the daily overnight parking fee of $35).
