The mission of the Holocaust Museum is to educate students and the public about the dangers of prejudice and hatred in society. The permanent exhibit is called "Bearing Witness: A Community Remembers," focusing on the stories of Holocaust survivors living in the Houston area.
The newest exhibit is an actual 1942 World War II rail car of the type used to carry millions of Jews to the concentration camps.
The Museum also includes two changing galleries for art and photography exhibits, and an education center with classroom areas and a research library. The library contains more than 4,000 titles relating to the Holocaust, World War II, religion, and anti-Semitism, as well as over 300 videos on related subjects. The tapes can be viewed on site, or checked out.
The Memorial Room and the Garden of Hope offer quiet spaces for reflection and meditation.
Guided tours are available for all visitors on Saturdays and Sundays, at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm.
