Hopkins Wilderness Park was developed in 1977 as a center for camping, nature study, and conservation. It is a large, shady wilderness park with self-guided nature walks and two large ponds with ducks (and food available for purchase), turtles, fish, and frogs. Other features include streams, a visitors' center, an amphitheater, picnic tables, cooking areas, and overnight camping.
Parents should be prepared for the fact that there is no play equipment at the park; Hopkins is a true spot of wilderness in the city.
