The
Hotel del Coronado is truly a crown jewel. Built in 1888 on 28 oceanfront acres, The Del is reminiscent of a more gracious era, with its
red turrets and classic Victorian architecture. The National Historic landmark is considered one of America's most beautiful resorts and has hosted presidents, royalty, and movie stars. It even has its own resident ghost!
The Del was rated one of the
top ten hotels in America by both
Family Life Magazine and
USA Today. And no wonder, with its wide variety of restaurants, shops, and endless recreation options.
Accommodations are available in the historic Victorian building, contemporary Ocean Towers, and California Cabanas. All rooms feature robes, mini-bars, in-room safes, room service, iron and board, free HBO, and pay movies. Baby-sitting, laundry, dry-cleaning, car rental, and airport shuttles can be arranged through the concierge for an extra fee.
The Del offers a spa and fitness center, two swimming pools, and children's and seasonal teen programs. Tent City Kids' Camps and Crafts are offered daily for those ages four to 12 (prices vary). Each camp has a different theme where kids can develop skills, participate in beach fun and games, create crafts, and more. Advance reservations are required for all activities and may be made by calling 619.522.8815.
The Del also features surfing lessons and boat and bike rentals. Golfing is nearby, as are the charms and conveniences of Coronado's downtown.
Old Town Trolley Tours depart from a stop nearby and can get you around the city or to the
San Diego Zoo for a nominal fee.
