The minute your family enters the modern lobby of this small hotel, you'll know you're not in Kansas anymore. This is no cookie-cutter hotel. The handcrafted deco-inspired yet modern lobby only serves as a prelude to the individualized colorful, handpainted guest rooms. The small rooms - some might call them "cramped" - are somewhat compensated for by the hotel's location at the gate to Chinatown just two blocks from Union Square. While no special amenities are provided to families, this hotel may appeal to those of you with older kids or hip sensibilities.
tips:
A drawback: The rooms are very small and may feel cramped, particularly if you're traveling with active, young kids. Better for older kids who are more likely to appreciate the sophisticated surroundings anyway.
getting there:
Cross street is Bush. Valet parking is available, guests pay $37 plus taxes for overnight parking. The hotel does not have a special shuttle service to the airport but it recommends the SFO Airporter Bus, which comes by the hotel every 20 minutes and costs $14 a person.
