My family just recently moved to the area from out of state. We discovered Howarth Park our first week here. The playground area at least. It wasn't until we had been there a few times that we decided to walk down the steps....we ended up following the trail to the bridge and beach. Soon after we discovered the additional lower parking lots. On an average week we go there around 4-5 times. It's close and plenty to entertain my 2 year old. There have been a couple of occasions where there were teenagers who I wouldn't say were rowdy but were partaking in things they shouldn't have been. I have found that if you 'invade' their space the leave rather quickly. The parking remote and I woudn't want to be there after dark because you never know. The only reason I wouldn't give the park 5 stars is because of the lack of restrooms. It's difficult to spend a day at the beach with a potty training 2 year old when the restrooms are quite a hike away.
Great beach with sand for skim boarding when the tide is out. The water is shallow and very safe for small kids. Nice sandy beach on the West side of the beach. Dogs permitted off leash on the East side of the beach. No beach at high tides. Restrooms are a long way from the beach, located in the upper park and parking lot is subject to vehicle prowls because of isolation
