about Hudson Park Branch Library:

The Children's Room is on the main floor of the Hudson Park Branch of the New York Public Library, the winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the Best Library for Little Kids, Big Kids, and Teens in New York City. The branch also houses the Early Childhood Resource & Information Center (phone 212.929.0815), on the second floor, as well as a Family Room for use by kids up to age five and their caregivers.

An auditorium on the lower floor contains a stage and seating for over 100 people. The auditorium is available for community group meetings as well as library programs.

The Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, complete with swimming pool, is right next door.

tips:

Every child should have his or her own Library Card. The powerful feeling of recognition as a being in his or her own right goes a long way toward developing a love of libraries and reading. Children from birth to age 11 can have their own cards; applications must be signed and completed by a parent or guardian. Teenagers in 7th grade and up (or 12 and older) must present identification that indicates their grade level or age: a program card, report card, birth certificate, or letter from a teacher on school stationary. Visit www.nypl.org for more information.
