The Hyde Park School of Dance, founded in 1993, is a not-for-profit school committed to giving professional training to students of all ages, whether they're interested in dance as a career or for exercise and recreation.
The school emphasizes progressive training in ballet technique beginning with creative movement for three year olds and continuing through pointe and stage presentation. Supplementing the ballet curriculum are instructional and recreational classes in Modern Dance, Jazz, and Hip Hop suitable for both children and adults.
The school is dedicated to sharing dance with the community through public performances and its scholarship program, which reaches out to children who may otherwise not have the opportunity to dance.
Children's classes are offered in the afternoons, Monday-Thursday, and Saturday, all day.
Studio locations include: First Unitarian Church (Woolman Hall, 5650 S. Woodlawn), Union Church (3rd Floor, 1169 East 56th Street), and The Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (5480 S. Kenwood).
Trial classes are offered for a small fee, which may be applied to tuition.
