The only official state residence of royalty in the US was home to the last two Hawaiian monarchs, King Kalakaua (who built the palace in 1882) and his sister and successor, Queen Lili'uokalani.
The palace has undergone significant restoration and now provides a wealth of information about Hawaiian history and heritage for visitors, and it also hosts live entertainment and community events.
Visitors can explore the galleries on a self-guided tour, with an audio tour, or led by a docent.
