After President Garfield purchased, restored, and then enlarged this farmhouse in 1876, reporters named the home Lawnfield because of the wide expanse of lawn on which they literally camped out during the campaign.
Designated as the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in 1980, the nearly eight-acre attraction includes a recently rehabilitated carriage house, Garfield's campaign office, a 75-foot tall pump house/windmill, plus a barn, and chicken coop.
Hours, May through October, are Mon-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 12n-5pm. From November through April, the site is open Sat-Sun 12n-5pm. School and other groups can schedule tours by appointment.
Special events are held year round.
