The James A. Michener Art Museum named for Doylestown's famous, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and supporter of the arts, is an independent, non-profit institution dedicated to preserving, interpreting and exhibiting the art and cultural heritage of the Bucks County region.
Hands-on interactives in the Family Education Center help children and families explore topics and themes in the collection. Assorted classes and workshops such as Comic Book Clinic, Mask Making Workshop, Asian Brushwork, Collage and Jazz, and, the Learning to Look and Listen Series (for children ages three to six, with an adult) are offered.
Summer camps at the Michener expose children to Bucks County's artistic traditions while exploring a variety of techniques to create original works of art. Call 215.340.9800, ext. 126 for details and reservations.
Birthday parties get an arty twist at the Michener, complete with gallery tour, art activities, cake, and beverages. Special requests are welcomed - the Michener can tailor the party to the birthday child's wishes. Prices begin at $250 for a basic two-hour party for up to 15 children, ages three to 15. Various membership packages are available and include admission to both the Doylestown and New Hope locations, exhibition preview receptions, priority registration, and discounts on programs, special events, museum shop and cafe purchases.
