about International Shotokan Karate Federation:

Classes at Santa Monica's International Shotokan Karate Federation (formerly called Japan Karate Association) are designed to impart the mental, spiritual, and physical aspects of this martial art. The simple studio is bright and airy. Children begin sessions seated Japanese style on their knees, eyes closed, breathing quietly.

Based on traditional Karate, training in this fitness program teaches children to focus their mental and physical energies in fun, productive, non-violent ways. Whether a child wants to pursue karate in competitive tournaments, for self-defense, for art, or for exercise and mental gratification, instructors are able to take each student's goals and abilities into consideration.

Karate Birthday Parties can be arranged at at the Dojo. Rates vary according to group size. Alternatively, an instructor can come to a birthday party and teach a class (an additional travel fee applies).

tips:

This place is serious but fun. New students may wear loose clothing for the first week. After that, they are expected to dress in a traditional white gi (karate uniform). Shoes are not allowed. Parents and visitors are welcome to quietly observe at all times.
