This is a new location in Scripps Ranch with brand new indoor and outdoor playareas! The coffee and food are of the same great quality as the La Mesa store.

I was so looking forward to play time at Java Mama. When my family and I finally got our chance we were very disappointed. The toys looked dirty. A little girl who I assume was the owners daughter wanted each toy we picked for our child to play with. He is an infant and the little girl was throwing a ball near him. The mother didn't pay any attention to what her child was doing. I would NOT and will not recommend Java Mama to anyone.

We love Java Mama...especially Miss Nicki, the play area supervisor! It's been a great place for us to enjoy free events like storytime and dance party, as well as our Kindermusik class!

Java Mama has a wonderful, classy, warm environment. The staff is authentic and friendly and they have a great variety of tasty treats. Wonderful selection of classes as well!

Wow. Please parents, watch your kids. This isn't a child care facility. It's a great place to relax, and feel comfortable with your child. Please, don't drop your kids and the play area, and be away from them long enough for them to make it to the street!!!

Good food, classes of all kinds, play area for the little ones (totally enclosed), relaxing, relaxing, relaxing.

If the day has something left to be desired for my toddler, this is a great place to go for half an hour to an hour and enjoy a Mommy/daughter date. I hope more locations open down the road! The concept is amazing. If all the parents would keep an ear out at least for their child in the playarea everyone would be happier.

This is a great place for little kids and their parents to hang out. A couple of gripes I have with the place lie with some customers though. I don't think it is an appropriate place for bigger kids, as they tend to hog the slide and run into the toddlers, which the toys are clearly intended for. Secondly, I have encountered several moms who sit outside the play area and do not watch their kids, which could be very troublesome if a child tried to leave the building, or simply didn't know how to play nice with the other kids. Let's keep this a great place to relax!

I went with a friend who has a kid, expecting it to be too loud and crazy to have an adult conversation, but the play area is a lot of fun for the kids and keeps them occupied while the cafe lets you enjoy "grown up" space too (while watching your kid of course).

I love this place! My son (7 months old) and I have gone several times now and love the little play area. I have experienced no 'safety issues' as I am with my child at all times...which is suggested on a posting over the play area. It seems quite clear that the purpose of the play area is not for unsupervised play, yet some still leave their children unattended (which is quite frankly annoying!) Alicia (the owner) is working tirelessly to make her dream perfect for everyone. I propose that some don't ruin it for the rest of us...

I agree some with the other comments but the place did just open and after talking to the owners, they are working really hard to work out the kinks and safety issues. Rome wasn't built in a day, I give them major kudos for doing what many of us only dream of doing. Plus, its a child-friendly cafe not an indoor play arena.

...the play area is very small and since my little one is still "attached" to me I cannot leave him alone in the area. The place overall is great looking and the coffee is okay. I too am worried about safety issues with the door as well as the safety of some of the toys and the front glass window. Overall, you should check it out and see if it meets your needs.

The play area is teeny tiny and feels crowded with more than five or six kids playing at one time, especially if a parent needs to accompany their child inside the play area. The restaurant, however, is suitable for a meeting a friend for coffee who also has a very young child. If your child is old enough for the play area, there is a good selection of books and toys, but if your toddler tends to put things in his mouth, be watchful of the toys he picks up in the play area as many are for the over 3 age group. I haven't taken a class yet but the classroom is nice and class descriptions are interesting. One MAJOR saftey issue here: A baby gate separates the play area from the restaurant area, but with older kids entering and exiting, the gate doesn't always shut on its own and tends to be unlocked most of the time. Since the front door is so close to the play area, and a very busy street lurks right outside the door, more safety precautions need to be added to the play area and/or entrance door so a kid doesn't accidently wander outside and into the street!
