Jefferson Barracks Park served as a major military installation between 1826 and 1946; troops bound for service in nearly all major US wars during that period gathered here for supplies and training.
Today the park stands as a more peaceful, quiet site, offering lighted athletic fields, a 2.7-mile paved trail, and the St. Louis County Veterans Memorial Amphitheater.
The park also features a nine-hole Frisbee golf course, a field archery range, and several reservable picnic shelters.
Several historic buildings still stand for parkgoers to discern a bit of military history: Guided tours, educational programs, special exhibitions, and events often take place; buildings are typically open noon-4pm Wed-Sun.
