about Jefferson Market Branch Library:

The Children's Room is on the first floor of this landmark building, which was once a courthouse. The Jefferson Market Branch of the New York Public Library offers an outstanding selection of children's books and reference materials, in addition to videos, CDs, CD ROMs, and a small collection of books on tape. Kids can access the internet or use PCs with assistance from high school students.

Young adult books are on the second floor, along with a program meeting room that contains a small stage for films and special events.

The branch is wheelchair-accessible.

tips:

Every child should have his or her own Library Card. The powerful feeling of recognition as a being in his or her own right goes a long way toward developing a love of libraries and reading. Children from birth to age 11 can have their own cards; applications must be signed and completed by a parent or guardian. Teenagers in 7th grade and up (or 12 and older) must present identification that indicates their grade level or age: a program card, report card, birth certificate, or letter from a teacher on school stationary. Visit www.nypl.org for more information.
