At this working factory, way out in Fairfield, you'll find out just how this venerable candy maker - inventor of the gourmet jelly bean - gets so much flavor into such a small package. And though it may be tough to walk past so many temptations, free samples await all visitors at tour's end.
You'll get to taste Jelly Belly burgers and pizzas, and choose from several ice cream choices. You can have lunch in the restaurant or picnic outside. And one guess where you can walk your dog? On the Jelly Belly Dog Walk.
The tour runs 45 minutes and is offered every 15 minutes throughout the day. Private (paid) tours on the factory floor can be arranged in advance by calling the company.
The company makes 100 other candies, includes Jordan Almonds, Dutch Mints, gummi bears, sour candies, sugar free candies, and chocolate covered malt balls. There is also an exhibition candy kitchen where visitors can watch the making of caramel apples, hand dipped chocolates, caramel corn, and truffles.
Jelly Belly Candy Company hosts seasonal events such as a Halloween masquerade, brunch with Santa, or pictures with the Easter Bunny. Check the website for schedules.
An added bonus: In the gift shop, you can buy cut-rate Belly Flops - misshapen but still yummy jelly beans.
