Since 1939, Jim's Steaks has been serving up what are arguably Philadelphia's best cheeseteaks. Unlike sandwiches made with thicker meat at better-known local competitors like Pat's, Jim's steaks contain lean, finely chopped beef that practically melts in your mouth. Sandwiches can be prepared with American, provolone, or the traditional, gooey Cheez Whiz, and kids love Jim's pizza steaks made with sauce and Whiz. Other items from the grill include breakfast egg sandwiches with cheese, peppers, and/or ham (served all day); hoagies - Italian, tuna, turkey, and ham and cheese - are also offered. Fries and other side dishes aren't on the menu at Jim's, but chips and a small selection of packaged snacks are available, along with a variety of bottled sodas, water, milk, juices, and beer. Jim's offers call-ahead take-out, but doesn't deliver. Those living outside the Philadelphia area can have a Jim's steak cooked fresh, frozen, and shipped via FedEx anywhere in the continental US by calling 1.877.313.JIMS. The bottom line: If you're looking for the quintessential Philly cheesesteak, head to straight to Jim's.
