The John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve is a beautiful and unique 30-acre Sandy Springs tree, plant, and wildlife sanctuary.
It is designed and managed as a forest education center, offering 1-1/2 miles of walking trails. Nature sites include hilly topography, two creeks, and a diverse middle growth forest including some large 100- and 200-year-old white oak trees. Visitors should pick up a self-guided trail tour brochure at the Preserve entrance.
But be forewarned - this is a place for reflection and quiet - so older children may appreciate it more than young ones.
