"JK", as Julius Kahn Park is locally known, is situated along the southern border of the Presidio, the nation's largest urban National Park. The nice-sized, well-maintained playground consists of two separate, fenced, sand-surfaced play areas: One for babies and toddlers and one for school-aged children. Both have climbing structures, slides, and swings.

The tennis and basketball courts, soccer and baseball fields lying next to the playground make this place more than a little kid's park. Beautiful forest-like surroundings also make it a great place to hike and picnic. The clubhouse has restrooms, a water fountain, and picnic tables.

Parties: Proximity to playground, fields, and picnic tables make this a great setting for birthday parties. Call the SF Parks & Recreation Department to reserve the park 415.831.5500.

Bring a ball - whatever kind you want - and take advantage of the large soccer, football, and baseball fields.

getting there:

Cross street is Maple. From California Street, follow Presidio Boulevard north to the Presidio Park and take your first left. The park is halfway down on your right.

It's sort of funny/sad, I noticed same thing about the parents and caregivers. Why the crappy mood??? Drink some more coffee or something. Otherwise an awesome park, fantastic for toddlers, they have spongy ground cover so all those falls hurt a lot less and very cool playground equipment. For a better "vibe" go to Mountain Lake Park, My son loves watching people do Tai Chi, if you are early enough and what kid doesn't like ducks!

I agree with the last post. There always seem to be adults or caregivers not in the best of moods. And, some not even watching their kids, as they run around and cause trouble, because they're too busy chatting with their friends. However, the playground itself is pretty fantastic. I haven't seen the water area working in a while though. The weather is usually nice there and it's enclosed so children don't do wondering off...unless of course, the gate is left open, which also happens often enough.

The playground is near perfect in layout and variety of structures. There's a large field nearby and always lots of activity. The only complaint I have is that I've regularly encountered either over-indulged children or crabby adults. Not sure why, but it's happened enough times to keep me from going back regularly.

i love this park. your toddler can play in the sand for hours...sand toys are already there. there is a sand/water feature, nice play structure, cool swings, and a little rock climbing feature. kids of all ages can and will enjoy! and the surrounding large green field is perfect for picnics. if you plan to have a bday party there, call for reservations early...this place is very popular and gets booked up fast.

Excellent playground, mostly because of its unique structure. There are things in this playground that I've never seen anywhere else. Definitely a place to check out if you're growing tired of the standard playground.
