Kemah Boardwalk is a 40-acre waterfront entertainment complex that features restaurants, shops, and a carnival area with amusement rides, including a Ferris wheel, a tower drop, kiddie rides, a carousel, and the Boardwalk Bullet roller coaster. The whole family can tour the grounds on the miniature train.
Ride prices vary, generally $3 and up; an all-day pass is $16.99-$18.99.
Joe's Boardwalk Beast is a speedboat that takes passengers on a 25-minute, 40mph "thrill ride" into the Galveston Bay. The ride is both wet and wild (water pistols are encouraged), so dress to get soaked, and bring a towel. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for kids, and advance tickets are available online.
On hot days, families can cool off and splash in the dancing fountain in the main plaza, and also enjoy a playground and midway games.
Several restaurants rim the boardwalk with views of the bay, including Joes's Crab Shack and Aquarium Restaurant, which features a 50,000-gallon indoor aquarium brimming with marine life.

From Houston, take Loop 610 East to Route 225 East. Exit to Route 146 South. Go over the Kemah Bridge, and turn left onto 6th Street to reach Kemah Boardwalk.
