The Kendall Ice Arena offers a haven for skating buffs, be they olympic figure skating hopefuls or hockey players looking for a game. This huge facility offers two rinks, and we love the cool relief from south Florida's humidity! The arena offers lots of free-skating hours, and inexpensive rentals, so it's a great way to beat the heat or fill a rainy afternoon. Figure skating classes are available for children ages six to 16, from basic introduction skating for those who've never skated before to more advanced skill skating for certification from the USFSA. Kids can learn to stand up or jump and spin depending on their skill level. Tots classes are offered for children ages three to six years with no skating experience. A variety of times are offered for these classes (lasting approximately 30 minutes) including early evening, afterschool, and weekends. Call the number above to register. Private lessons from specially trained instructors are also offered at this facility. Instructors' fees and schedules vary, and these lessons can be arranged through the skate school office. Hockey classes are available for children ages 6 to 16. These classes require previous completion of basic skating classes or performance at that level. The Youth 2001 Summer Hockey League runs from mid-June through mid-August, and consists of eight games. Check out the Skaters Mall Sports Shop for any hockey or figure skating apparel needs. The shop even has some used skates on hand for purchase. Birthday parties include admission, skate rental, use of a party room, a slice of pizza or hot dog, and drink for each child, popcorn, balloons, invitations, live DJ birthday announcement, a party hostess, and a t-shirt for the birthday child.
