Kids Creative, founded in 1998 by brothers Stephen and Adam Jacobs, creators of NYC's wildly popular
Dirty Sock Funtime Band, is a nonprofit organization offering afterschool programs, summer camp, and workshops.
The mission of
Kids Creative is to foster confidence, creativity, conflict resolution skills, and a strong sense of community in children through arts education. What makes
Kids Creative unique is the inclusion of a wide variety of art forms and the commitment to serve children whose creativity and artistic vision is not always recognized or given the chance to thrive. Its teacher/artists have strong backgrounds in primary education and music.
At its
award-winning summer camp, celebrating its 11th year, kids develop and perform their own original play. From story line and character development to costumes and set design, children in mixed-age groups of 15 develop their original play and are given the freedom to think for themselves, problem solve, and respect each other's ideas.
Through
Kids Creative's peace education based program, campers of diverse ages and backgrounds develop their creativity and conflict-resolution skills in a safe and comfortable environment. Half of each day is spent on traditional camp activities like sports, park and sprinkler time, art projects, and field trips. And with a five to one camper to staff ratio, each child is given the support and encouragement they need to succeed.
Summer camp is held at
PS 191 (61st and Amsterdam). Visit the website for
registration information and further details
Kids Creative afterschool classes are available at various schools around the city including
