About Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago
The Kohl Children's Museum has fun and interactive exhibits which reflect the varied learning styles of children ages birth through eight. It provides an atmosphere in which children are able to explore and respond to a Museum made specifically for them!
Permanent Exhibits highlights include:
Water Works, where children can make a splash while exploring scientific properties of water, practical everyday functions of water, and discover some imaginative and artistic uses for water.
Hands on House, where kids can roll up their sleeves and help construct a beautiful new house, and then add some decorations! Kids can also use a conveyor belt, crane, and wheelbarrows to move soft sculptured rocks.
Music Makers is the area where little ones can make a little noise while discovering how sounds make music, and how music makes you feel.
Car Care takes visitors on a trip through the wonderful world of automobiles. kids can build their own toy cars and test them on four different tracks - and drive through the Kid Car Wash (complete with flaps, rollers, and "blow-dry" air nozzles).
Birthday Parties include 1-1/2 hours in a private party room and admission for a full day of Museum exploration for birthday kids and their guests. Goody bags, invitations, mylar balloons, and more are available through the museum's Village Toy Shop, and a wide variety of cake, food, and refreshment options can be handled through Kim & Scott's Pretzel Bakery & Twisting Cafe, right in the museum. (Ask about the special Twisting Party option!) Call 847.832.6923 for reservations and information.

- We were really impressed by how wonderful this place is...the only thing that was not so impressive was the fact that even adults have to pay to get in.

[Submitted by nabila6/02/08 - We were so impressed the moment we stepped in, we decided to become members, and have not regretted it. My 2 children (4 and 1-1/2) never tire of exploring the music room, the water room, the interactive sculpture garden outdoors, the baby room, the travelling show (last time it was about Japan and chock full of interesting cultural info and fun activities) etc. It's always clean, lots of volunteers, and since we home-school, I always feel they're learning great things there, not like some other "children's museums" that I would argue are nothing more than glorified playrooms.
