L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa, a romantic 120-room luxury hotel, might not strike you as a place to bring the kids, but it is. Situated in the heart of Del Mar, one block from the beach and one block from the shopping district, the hotel's location offers children an abundance of distractions within walking distance. The hotel grounds include a spa, fitness center, a gift shop full of eye candy, a clothing store, a restaurant, a pub, live piano music in the lobby in the evenings, a spa, and a small outdoor amphitheater, which hosts occasional children's shows. The hotel pool is a source of hours of pleasure and the centerpiece of a beautifully landscaped outdoor courtyard that most rooms overlook. A standard double room with a pool view was large enough to accommodate our family of four (two children, three and six years old) at a rate of approximately $250 per night. Another kid-pleasing feature: It's a short downhill walk to Powerhouse Park, which offers one of the most scenic playgrounds in San Diego.
