Don't be put off by receptionists who sound like they're doing you a favor by booking an appointment. Gentle, professional hairdressers soothe the most spooked child and baskets of cool toys provide distraction at one of the most popular kids' salons in North Seattle.
Children getting their first haircut at L'il Klippers receive a card with a lock of hair in it. Older kids and teens can get their hair cut right next door at The Edge. Appointments for both can be booked by calling the salon's number.
L'il Klippers is located inside the Wallingford Center, a converted turn-of-the-century elementary school.

My boys are now 10 and 12, both received their first haircuts at Lil Klippers and have never been anywhere since. Now they're into the Playstation and Sports Illustrated at the edge. We have always loved the experience and the stylists have been great.!
I called day-of for an appointment for my 3-year-old. There wasn't anything available at the moment, but the front desk person was very accommodating and offered to call me if anything opened up. She called me back within the hour and booked an appointment for us. Our stylist was ready for us when we arrived and it could not have been a better experience for me or my daughter. She had a great time playing with boxes of toys while her stylist gave her the cutest haircut ever. She even got braids with ribbons and sparkles! We won't ever go anywhere else for her haircuts.
like the hip open design of the salon, fun toys to entertain while you wait (& believe me, you'll wait), and yum cupcakes next door. cons? if you're potty training the bathroom is quite a schlep (plus, you need to get a code to get in), they seem to be consistently late with appts (our 2 pm didn't happen until 2:25--yet they'll only hold your appt if you're less than 15 min late), but the worst thing IMHO is that the haircuts aren't that great. i, for one, want my little girl to look extra cute. maybe i have too high of standards? i know there are great kid stylists out there 'cause i've seen the kids, but i have yet to find one that gets my little girl the... "oh my goodness, where did she get her hair cut? it's soooooo cute!" response.
They are NOT open Sunday, since I waited til noon because the web says they open at 10am. When I did get them, they had only one appointment all week at a decent time.
We scheduled what was supposed to be our toddler's first haircut and arrived 5 minutes before our appointment time, but our stylist wasn't ready for us until 20 minutes later. We asked several times at the front desk for an estimate of our wait time but were given only general answers, like "a little while longer". Needless to say, our little boy was pretty much out of patience by the time the stylist graced us with her presence. This coupled with the fact that she didn't make much of an effort to make him comfortable or connect with him (she just told me to put him in one of the haircut-mobiles) just made him all the more wary of her and he became more upset. When I said to the stylist that the long wait time had zapped his patience, she did not apologize but told me that 10 minutes wait time was "standard" for hair sylists AND DOCTORS and that it was not out of line. Her unprofessional demeanor and this totally out of line comment clinched our decision to leave the salon immediately. I am so disappointed with the service of this salon and very upset that we wasted an entire morning putting ourselves and our son through a needlessly upsetting experience. Yes, we often wait an extra 10 minutes or more for our doctor to show up, but she at least apologizes and isn't rude about it AND manages to be nice to our child! I expected so much more from a CHILDREN'S SALON, like, just for example, to be served by a stylist who might be actually good with children and families. I made the appointment at L'il Klippers based on the good reviews I found on this site - I hope that other families reading these reviews will think twice before selecting this salon.
This is the first place we went to get our 18 month old's hair cut. We've had 3 cuts from Lil Klippers and I've been really pleased with all of them. They usually ask what I want then tell me I can go sit down if I'd like. They were accurate, gentle and quick. The cuts - perfect. I've had a few different stylists and they are all wonderful with children. The kids get to hold a box of toys. Ours loves the truck, car and digger toy box. There's a play house in front of the salon and a train table nearby. Lots of good magazines for me to read while I wait. It's in the Wallingford Center (WC). I've always gotten a parking spot right in the WC parking lot. We will continue to get our son's hair cut here.
This salon is incredible. From the super-friendly staff to the selection of available toys to distract to the incredibly good hairstylists who can make even crazy hair look so good that everyone comments on how perfect the cut is - L'il Klippers should be your only choice. The hairstylist spent quality time asking me about my 14 month old's hair - concerns I had, a look I wanted - then proceeded to cut her hair super fast (she cried less) and in the CUTEST cut I have ever seen. She worked with her hair to make it grow more evenly and I have had compliments on this cut for months now. I will be taking my daughter back here from now on!
