La Jolla Shores Hotel in La Jolla, CA 92037

About La Jolla Shores Hotel
Situated at the southern end of the La Jolla Shores beach, the La Jolla Shores Hotel (formerly called the Sea Lodge Hotel) is one of the few hotels in San Diego located right on the beach. Given its great location, there's practically no need to leave the premises; pack your stuff, and look for parking at the beach.
Right in front of the hotel is where many of the kayaking aficionados take off, as do snorkelers and scuba divers. A short distance away is where surfers congregate. If interested in trying out any of the sports, ask at the front desk; they'll guide you to one of the several outdoor companies, located right down the street, who can help you out.
The hotel's central location offers easy access to attractions like the Zoo, SeaWorld, and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Right next door to the hotel is the playground at Kellog Park, and a short walk away, on Avenida de la Playa, you'll find a variety of markets and restaurants.
The hotel has 128 nicely decorated and maintained rooms, all spacious enough to comfortably fit a family of four, with refrigerators (and some even have kitchenettes). If possible, opt for a room with an ocean view. There is nothing so mesmerizing as sitting on the balcony, watching the tide come in...go out...listening to the waves...
The hotel's architectural style is reminiscent of San Diego's history - Spanish, with a red-tiled roof, central courtyard, and Mexican tiles. In the middle of the courtyard is a heated swimming pool, tot pool, and jacuzzi, just in case the ocean is a tad cold.
Eating at the hotel's restaurant, The Shores Restaurant, has two big draws: the view and the food. The huge plate glass windows give diners access to a non-stop show - be it the ocean, the sunset, or simply those at the beach. The food is upscale, consistently good, and not off-the-charts expensive, considering how good it is. Kids are delighted to discover that their menu has a few items other than the standard kids fare; the award-winning chef thought to add a few "grownup" items that young visitors might like to try.
For those looking for a hotel with good service, the staff at La Jolla Shores Hotel is top notch, warm, gracious, and hospitable.
Tips
The La Jolla Shores Hotel is owned by the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, and its price is a bargain by comparison. The properties are located next door to one another so you get roughly the same quality of beach experience, but the La Jolla Shores Hotel beach has public access.
