Escape the heat in this old-time ice cream and candy shoppe, as the cool, roomy interior provides a welcome break from strolling The Strand. A variety of ice cream flavors are presented in soda-fountain fashion, with sundaes, banana splits, shakes, and coke floats.
While half of the space is devoted to the ice cream parlour, the other half is a candy-lover's delight, with about a gajillion kinds of old-fashioned candies: rock candy, peanut brittle, salt water taffy, candy apples, homemade chocolates and fudge, jawbreakers, sours, and giant lollipops as big as kids' faces. Oh, and pistachios and other kinds of nuts, if candy's not your thing.
La King's also has a full-service espresso bar for the afternoon pick-me-up, with a half-dozen varieties of coffee.
Inside the entrance is a short flight of stairs, but a lift is available for wheelchairs and strollers. La King's has wide aisles (easy on maneuvering the strollers), plenty of table-seating (including a few kid-sized tables), and small restrooms (no changing tables).
