This may be the most popular school in town for swim lessons. And now there is a location actually in town! Many city people think it's worth the trip - even to locations down south - because the indoor pool is a warm 90 degrees and the swimming lessons for infant through school age children are "fantastic," in the words of more than one mom.
The San Francisco venue features two pools - one especially for babies and toddlers under the age of three.
Teachers instruct groups of children, four at a time, and even the youngest children go underwater.
Best of all, La Petite Baleen has integrated a new computer system and no longer has the onerous sign up procedure parents used to dread. Once you are registered, you're entered on a perpetual calendar. No lines, no special phone hours!

getting there:
From San Francisco: take highway 280 or 101 south until you get to the highway 92 west exit. After the traffic light at Crystal Springs Reservoir, travel approximately 7 miles on a winding road (Rt. 92). Once you get to the center of Half Moon Bay, at the first traffic light, turn left onto Main Street. Go through 5 stop signs; La Petite Baleen is on the left, a few driveways after the I.D.E.S. hall. The building is "Victorian" style and is blue with white and green trim.
