Victorian-style Lafayette Park, one of the oldest parks west of the Mississippi River, serves as an anchor of Lafayette Square, one St. Louis's most beautifully restored historic neighborhoods. Each day finds residents enjoying picnics, jogging, biking, and walking their pooches throughout this urban oasis. The 30-acre park also has several athletic fields, a playground, lake, boat house, and picturesque gazebo, which is often used for weddings and special occasions. Lafayette Park Summer Concert Series is held here on alternating Saturday evenings beginning in early June. The concerts are held at the gazebo and feature bands playing a variety of music, including jazz, blues, pop, and Latin.
