Once a decaying neighborhood filled with stately but neglected Victorian homes,
Lafayette Square welcomed restoration efforts that began in the 1960's. Today it's a thriving, revitalized urban area, listed on the
National Register of Historic Places and standing as a testament to the city's Victorian era in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
Visitors can take
self-guided walking tours and enjoy homes that display French Second Empire-, Federal-, and Romanesque Revival-style architecture.
The neighborhood sponsors a number of events in and around
Lafayette Park, including a
summer concert series and home and garden tours.
