Once a decaying neighborhood filled with stately but neglected Victorian homes, Lafayette Square welcomed restoration efforts that began in the 1960's. Today it's a thriving, revitalized urban area, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and standing as a testament to the city's Victorian era in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
Visitors can take self-guided walking tours and enjoy homes that display French Second Empire-, Federal-, and Romanesque Revival-style architecture.

getting there:
Lafayette Square is anchored by Lafayette Park, located one block north of I-44. From downtown, take Broadway south to where it turns slightly to the right and becomes Seventh Street. Take Seventh Street to Lafayette and turn right. Follow Lafayette several blocks to the park and the Square.
