Owned and operated by the City of Houston, Lake Houston Park is a lushly forested expanse of nearly 5,000 acres, located about 30 miles north of Houston. The park features camping, hike and bike trails, canoeing, kayaking, and horseback riding, and is also a prime spot for bird watching.
The park's nature center features live reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, plus educational displays and a reference library.
From the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North), take the Community Drive exit heading east, then turn left onto Loop 494. Turn right on FM 1485, then right on Baptist Encampment Road.
