Larchmont's lovely tree-lined sidewalks and unusual shops and restaurants make it a perfect place for a day of brunching and browsing, especially when you don't want the stale air and fluorescent lights of one of the big shopping malls.
This Hancock Park boulevard can feel a bit like a village street in Connecticut, except for the palm trees and occasional movie star. And in the surrounding blocks, strollers can gander at some of the most beautiful old houses in Los Angeles.
Larchmont shoppers won't want to miss the gorgeous, but pricey, children's clothes and costumes at Flicka, a perfect place for special gifts and special occasions. Chevalier's Books has a whole room of children's books and an extremely knowledgeable staff on hand to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
Right next door to the bookstore, at 128 and 1/2 North Larchmont, is Jean's Accents, a treasure trove of antique dolls, dollhouses, doll furniture, and teddy bears. The windows of this quaint little store will draw any and all window-shoppers; the store is open only Tue-Sat, 10:30am-4:30pm. (323.467.6565)
Landis General Store is an enormous store full of stationery, sundries, gifts, and party supplies. And no visit to Larchmont is complete without a stop at Larchmont Beauty Center for all the hair accessories and nail polish your daughters could possibly dream of.
You'll find many other wonderful gift shops and antique stores, and you can choose from among a dozen different restaurants. Children might enjoy one of the two pizza parlors in town: the traditional Village Pizzeria, or the trendier ZPizza. For a slightly fancier atmosphere, try the Cafe du Village, also open for breakfasts and brunch.
Dessert? How about some ice cream at Baskin-Robbins. At 230 North Larchmont, you can get those 31 flavors every day, from 11am-10pm.
