Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is 27-acre park that was once a vacation retreat and working rancho belonging to Hollywood actor Leo Carrillo. The original name of the ranch was
Rancho de los Kiotes (believed to refer to an agave plant known as the "Spanish Dagger"). The historic property was bequeathed to the municipality and is open to the public every day except Mondays.
Many of the original buildings and outbuildings still exist and give visitors a great feeling of what it was like in its heyday. The public is welcome to wander around the historic ranch any time it is open. The buildings, however, can only be seen on a guided tour, held on Saturdays and Sundays.
Peacocks roam freely (but cannot be fed by visitors!), and the site is perfect for catching glimpses of hummingbirds and other native fauna, including lizards. The grounds are also filled with gorgeous agave, succulents, bougainvillea, Birds of Paradise, and plentiful trees.
