Levine School of Music, the Washington DC region's preeminent center for music education, is a welcoming community where children and adults can find lifelong inspiration and joy through learning, performing, listening to, and participating with others in music. Its distinguished faculty offers a broad and well-rounded curriculum that provides a strong musical foundation for more than 3,500 students of all ages, abilities and interests at four campuses in Northwest and Southeast DC, the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland, and Arlington, Virginia.
Levine's curriculum is rooted in the Western classical tradition. Jazz and music from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are also important to the school's repertoire. Courses include private and group instruction in brass, guitar, music technology, piano/keyboards, percussion, strings, voice, and winds; composition, music history, and theory; chamber, choral, and orchestral music; Suzuki flute, piano, and strings; Early Childhood Music and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Summer camps are also offered for children ages three and a half and up.
Levine offer a series of performances and events recognized for their breadth, excellence, and imagination, in an intimate and friendly community setting. Audiences can see a preview of the next generation of performers in competitions, master classes, and student concerts. Most of these events are free or at a modest charge.
