Our daughter (now in first grade) attended summer camp at the LJCC for the first time this year, and had a GREAT time!! She mostly did Camp Yofi (the traditional day camp) -- swimming, games, arts and crafts, etc. but also did two Specialty Camps ("Gleek Out - musical theater and Science). She loved all of the camps and loved her counselors! She went to the "Early Bird" before care in the Youth Lounge most mornings, and she enjoyed it as well. It is well-supervised free time for the kids to play games, do art, or watch tv (their choice). The LJCC's facilities are the best in town -- the pool, the gym, field, track, woods, etc. And the camps are all very reasonably priced, especially for LJCC members. Overall, we were very happy with having our daughter there, and she has already asked if she could go again next summer! Definitely yes!!

LJCC has a great variety of specialty camps, as well as more traditional sport camps. The facilities are "top-notch". The Camp Director & counselors are positive & enthusiastic. I always recommend the LJCC to anyone looking for a summer day camp.

Having two children that have attended summer day camps at the LJCC for over 5 years, my family experience is nothing but positive. They always come home happy, content & excited to tell us about their day with incredibly specific details. From Circus Camp to more traditional camps, LJCC has it ALL! Their confidence is boosted each and every day; and, they are already hoping to be counselors in future camp years. The counselors, as well as the Camp Director are always positive, supportive & nurturing. The Staff exhibits a true caring for our children and reinforces the importance of being compassionate in their youthful relationships, as well as respectful. I ALWAYS recommend the LJCC!!

My kids love this camp! They learn so much about nature, are taught team building excercises, are challenged with swimming and swim safety, hiking, cooking, art, drama, crafts, games, archery, sports and so much more, including a foreign emissary that comes every year and teaches the children about other cultures. Our kids emrge from this program very happy, enthusiastic, confident and self-assured, more independent and they also sleep well at night from the full days activities. They adore the couselors, coaches and staff there and also love the youth lounge where they go to hang out before 9 and after 3:30. They get to play in the arcade, pool, ping pong, fooseball or watch tv and just hang out with their friends until we pick them up...all under adult supervision. This is the best place we've found and will def be back next year!!

My children absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE JCC camp!! They emphatically refuse to return to any other camp. The self confidence and independence they come out with is absolutely due to the support and encouragement they receive from the camp director, counselors and coaches. They play hard all day, do crafts, hike and learn environmental skilss, archery, swimming, cooking, gym and outdoor play and drama. My kids emerge from this camp so happy, sleep so well and really evolve in growth and maturity. I wish I could go and experience all of the fun and activities they enjoy! The before and aftercare lounge is supervised. Much more than just television, there is an art table, ping pong, pool and fooseball, plus free arcade games and is adult supervised. We'll be back again next year for sure!

Wow, I certainly hate that review below, as our experiences at the LJCC's camp have been exactly the opposite! Honestly, all the kids do all day long is PLAY sports, swim, games, activities, everything a kid SHOULD do at a day camp! We did not utilize the before or after care camp portion, but it's unstructured for a reason -- to give the kids "down time" before and after all their activities! Everyone at the J has been nothing but friendly, fun, and positive. The camp director is amazing at coordinating all she handles, and we absolutely would be back again! Best day camp in Birmingham with greatest facilities, hands down!!

My 6yr old son has been going to the JCC camp and I have been very disappointed. They do very few sport activities and the before camp and after camp care amounts to the kids hanging out in a room watching TV! The Camp director is unapprochable, never smiles. This is not a good thing for a camp director. She did not respond to an email that i sent her with concerns about my son being hit! Will never be back!!
