about Lion Country Safari:

Animals roaming free, and visitors driving their cars through different habitats, is the main attraction at Lion Country Safari. With names like Las Pampas, Serengeti Plains, and Gir Forest, the different habitats here offer a glimpse of the life of these animals in a semi-wild environment.

As you enter the gate, heed the warnings and keep your windows rolled up, and doors locked. Although the animals appear unaffected by the many cars that grace their landscape on a daily basis, a warning is a warning, and no little hands should be allowed to protrude from your car. We were pleasantly surprised at how caught up our group was in the animal sightings - even the preteens in our group forgot how uncool it is to register excitement! We especially liked the rhino herd (we'd never seen that many rhinos in one place) and the giraffe herd (they seem really tall, even from the perspective of an SUV seat).

A giraffe feeding station gives families an opportunity to stretch their legs, purchase giraffe food, and feed the animals from a special platform.

A 4,000 square foot water play area opened in 2005.

Daily educational presentations occur at 12n, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm. Topics include Animals of the Andes, Animals of the Rainforest, Mountain Mammals, Out of Africa, and Reptile Review. If you have a budding zoologist in your family, you might want to check out the presentation on Zookeeping as a Career.

In addition to the drive through part of the safari, kids love Safari World, offering miniature golf, boat rides, a ferris wheel, and a carousel. Animals are on display here as well, including the Lory Encounter (an enclosed aviary where you can feed the birds), parrots, alligators, iguanas, and monkeys. The attractions here are included in your admission price.

An annual pass is offered. The family pass also provides discounts at restaurant and gift shops, KOA daily rates at the campground, and the Safari Summer Day Camp.

Safari Birthday Parties include admission and lunch (cheeseburger, pizza, or hot dog) for all guests, and a t-shirt and gift for the birthday child. A deposit is required to book the date. For more information, or to book, call 561.793.1084, ext. 270.

A KOA Campground is located adjacent to Lion Country Safari.

tips:

The best time to see the wild animals at Lion Country Safari is when it?s raining, since the animals love the cool, wet weather. If, unlike the animals, you prefer not to venture out in the rain, make sure you get to the park early, before the animals escape to cool, shady places to sit out the afternoon heat.

getting there:

Located 10 miles west of the Florida Turnpike (Exit 97) on Southern Blvd. Or take I-95 to Exit 68 (Southern Blvd.) and head west for approximately 15 1/2 miles. Lion Country Safari is on the right.
