Unique architecture, comfy retro gliders, lively piped-in music, insanely good ice cream - there's little wonder why Little Man Ice Cream is the site for long lines and lip-smackin' happy customers. The shop - opened in 2008 - has become a community gathering place for The Highlands neighborhood, a veritable mecca for stroller-pushing families, Lo-Do residents, and long-time locals alike.
The unique "sweetery" - housed in a landmark building in the shape of a vintage milk jug - serves up hand-made ice cream, gelato, and sorbet, as well as fountain sodas, floats, malts, shakes, banana splits, and sundaes. Little ones can head to the old-fashioned metal playground slide on the restaurant's patio for kiddie fun while grown-ups determine their flavor du jour. Our must-try faves? Mexican chocolate, cupcake, pumpkin chip, and blueberry-cinnamon sorbet.
Little Man refers to the owner's father, a man short in stature but large in his commitment to giving back and making the world a better place. To that end, the store commits a portion of its sales to purchasing rice and other food goods for developing regions of the world.
Little Man often hosts special events such as holiday parades, pumpkin carving contests, poetry slams, and live local music concerts.
