If you're exploring the
Pike Place Market with kids, at some point you might want to find a quiet place to retreat from the bustle on the street.
Local Color, located in the heart of the Market, is a place where adults can have a cup of coffee and browse the gallery while kids get busy in an art area set up just for them. The spare, light space features a coffee bar and tables at the front - choose between the usual coffee and juice offerings and a nice selection of baked treats. Further back, look for gallery space that features a rotating selection of artists. At the very back of the store, kids can relax in the separate
Petite Gallery. In the Petite Gallery, kids sit at a small table and chairs and
create art that is hung on strings stretched between the wall and a post. The papers form a dynamic barrier-display that separate the Petite Gallery from the rest of the gallery, giving the area a secure, secluded feel. In a nice touch, the children's art is sold on a donation basis, with proceeds going to the nearby Pike Place Daycare and Preschool. Co-owner Sydne Albanese's studio opens into the children's area, so kids can relax, watch an artist at work, and create a masterpiece of their own.
