Macy's, the mega-chain department store, has numerous locations throughout the Delaware Valley. The downtown store, occupying the historic Wanamaker Building in the heart of the business district, hosts numerous holiday events throughout the year including an annual Holiday Light Show and The Dickens Village holiday display in late November and December.
The store offers good infant, child, and teen departments, as well as infant layette items and a small supply of baby toys. Most infant through grade-school clothes for boys and girls are rough-and-tough (Carters, OshKosh, HealthTex), with a few more expensive labels (Ralph Lauren, Little Me) thrown in.
Macy's recently started carrying shoes for kids; selection is adequate and the shoes are very nice for the price.
The Junior/Young Men's departments feature clothes with a hipper feel. You won't find too many clean-cut styles for older boys here - look for hip-hop and skater influenced clothes like baggy pants and logo t-shirts.
We've sometimes had trouble finding clothes for boys too old for matching separates from HealthTex but too young for harder-edged middle-school styles - the selection for girls, toddlers, and preschoolers seems more complete.
