Maggie Lena Walker was one of the nation's great entrepreneurial spirits. Her home in the Jackson Ward community has been restored and opened to the public at the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site. Through exhibits and guided tours visitors experience the life of this great African-American woman, who was born during slavery and achieved success despite segregation and the limited opportunities offered to her race.
