The storyline running through Mamma Mia!, as every critic has noted, is simply a serviceable vehicle to give the cast plenty of excuses to burst into tunes by ABBA - some songs instantly recognizable, some obscure. It's not always a successful conceit, but when it works - notably in a scene between the three older "girlfriends" channeling Chiquitita - it's fABBA-ulous.
Note that there are some sexual references - this is, after all, the story of a woman who gave birth out of wedlock, and a daughter trying to determine which of three possible fathers should walk her down the aisle on her wedding day - that you may also find inappropriate for your younger children.
