This Mass Audubon sanctuary offers more than ten miles of interconnecting trails through forests, meadows, and wetlands. Canoeing is available along eight miles of the Ipswich River that run through the sanctuary (members can rent canoes from May through October). Members can camp on Perkins Island, located a half mile up the river, or rent a cabin that is conveniently located close to the sanctuary's office and program facilities and sleeps four. Huge rocks and exotic trees and shrubs that were part of a former arboretum provide an adventurous walk along the Rockery Trail.
Ipswich River Day Camp offers nature camps for children ages four to 14. The sanctuary provides children an experience to explore forests, wetlands, meadows, and the Ipswich River. Campers have a unique opportunity to learn about the natural world, meet new friends, and have outdoor fun. Activities include canoeing, hiking, playing games, singing songs and listening to a Native American storyteller. Experienced staff provide a safe, educational and noncompetitive camp environment. One- and two-week sessions are available, and tuition begins at $150. The camp day runs from 9am to 3pm.
