about Maymont:

Maymont's grounds (covering 100 acres) are home to a museum, beautiful gardens, a nature center, a children's farm, and many wildlife exhibits. Classes for children and adults are offered on a frequent basis; check the website for current programming.

The Robins Nature & Visitor Center is dedicated to native Virginia wildlife, with a focus on the natural environment of the James River. A 20-foot waterfall cascades into the first of 13 giant, linked aquariums that are home to river otters, turtles, and fish of all shapes and sizes. Interactive galleries, including a replica of Richmond's flood wall, a weather station, and a fish ladder, are also well worth a visit. Birthday parties can be held at the Nature Center, as well. Call for information.

The Children's Farm is open year-round and offers children the opportunity to feed and pet many animals on display - including goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, donkeys, rabbits, peafowl (peacocks and peahens), turkeys, cattle, horses, geese, and ducks.

The museum features twelve restored rooms on the first and second floors, on view during general tours. A below-stairs exhibition is open in the mansion basement for self-guided tours.

For a leisurely ride through the property, climb aboard the tram which operates Tue-Sun, 12n-5pm from April-October and weekends in other months. (Fee: $3 for adults and $2 for children.) Or step back in time with a horse-drawn carriage ride ($5 for adults, $3 for kids). Hay rides are available June-August, Sat-Sun, 1pm-4pm Weather permitting.Call to schedule a private tour.

Summer camp programs for kids ages four to 13 are also available. Call for more information.
