McCarren Park's 35 acres host kickball, soccer, baseball, bocce ball, handball, basketball, football, tennis, and running meets.
Vincent A. Abate Playground, located at the northern edge of the park, features a monarch butterfly ground design near the playground's spray shower.
The McCarren Pool, one of eleven giant pools opened by Robert Moses in 1936, held 6800 swimmers and served as the summertime social hub for Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Closed in disrepair in 1984, the site now hosts concerts and other events. Plans are in the works to reopen the pool by summer 2011.
The Market in McCarren - an Artists & Fleas initiative packed with vendors hawking clothing, jewelry, accessories, handmade crafts, and more, runs on Saturdays from May to Oct, 10am-6pm. The market is located at the northern end of McCarren Park, next to the McCarren Field House.
