A towering seven-story castle, the
Mercer Museum houses dramatic displays of the implements, folk art, and furnishings of early America before mechanization. It is surrounded by
large open fields with plenty of room to
picnic or just rest and enjoy the view of the majestic house.
Walk into the Central Court and see a Conestoga wagon, whaling boat, carriages, and an antique fire engine suspended overhead. 50,000 tools, relating to more than 60 early American crafts and trades, are on display as well.
The small
gift shop features toys and books on colonial times geared towards children.
The museum holds a variety of
summer camp programs for kids in grades one through eight, including a Lego Robotics Camp in which kids can work with Legos to create simple machines powered by computer technology, and Explorers Camp. Call or check the website for details.
